Help!

I want to buy a Dell FP2001 or FP 2005 and use it as a monitor for my computer and a TV monitor for my Tivo. Currenty, the only speakers I have are a set of HK powered computer speakers. I'd like to be able to switch audio inputs and adjust the volume for the speakers. I'd like to avoid buying an stereo amp and speakers if possible. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Chris

Well, your choices are:

1) buy a remote control for your PC, and use that to adjust the volume. You can either program it to switch your inputs on/off (not entirely sure how you'd do it, but I'm sure girder has a plugin that would work), or manually mute the TiVo (or just stop its playback) when you don't want to listen to it. Your sound card can mix the audio just fine without needing to be manually switched, as long as you silence the other source.

2) buy a cheap receiver and plug both the PC and TiVo into it, and hook up your speakers to its line-out. Then you'd switch inputs and control the volume with the receiver's remote. I do this for my HTPC (the cable box plugs into the capture card's line-in, then the computer/vcr/video game consoles plug into the receiver). You don't need new speakers, as long as the receiver has stereo RCA line-out jacks.
