well as the thread states I need to know how to how to use FIOS router as a modem so I can use netgear router.

Just now after trying some info from the websites that want me to do this procedure to make that work which ended with me hooking up the internet cable that Verizon installed to my netgear router and all that did once moved the lan cable all that did was stop my internet connection.

Never once was I even able to get to see my netgear router because my Verizon router is only one that I get access to.

I just spent a long time with Verizon and all they concerned with is that there equipment works and will charge me for another visit.

This was the website I used to try to get my netgear router to work. I remember last time I used Verizon I was able to disable something in the settings that let me use my own router but that was before they added the internet cable to my new installation.

I'd recommend going to the DSLReports subforum for FiOS internet.

https://www.dslreports.com/faq/14077
and
https://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077

should explain most of it. If you have specific questions after reading those, a thread there will get you answers within a day usually.

Those threads dont help my and now I cant get my verizon wireless to work even after resetting the router I am guessing that my netgear router is interfering and I may have to remove the netgear and replace it with a switch!

If those wont help you, nothing will

The 2nd link there lists pretty much every possible combination of router/MoCA bridges that you would ever need to get your FiOS up and running with whatever router you want, some options don't even use the FiOS router at all.

What is the Model name and number of your Verizon Router and what exactly it connects to.

That would be... even less likely to work.

I will say this, networking support requires a bit more finesse, it doesn't lend itself well to the "let's try THIS, no, THIS" shotgun-style approach.

Suggesting that a switch would work, in place of a router, is pure folly. Do you even understand the differences between the two?

I just got my network working again after trying to reset both my verizon and netgear router and as of right now the wireless is barely working and I definitely need to get my netgear router working again!

I had been using the netgear since I started using comcast a year ago and it worked fine but I just was using a approved comcast modem so there was none of my current problems with that setup.

I will post later today giving the full details of my current setup.

Verizon wont help me any further because they say there only concerned with the verizon router working and we tried to contact netgear when I had verizon tech support but after awhile she said she could now call them due to the numbers being blocked and I heard the phone ringing she did not want to wait for netgear to finally answer the phone was the problem and from what I have seen if they send a tech they would probably not be able to fix the problem either so I have to figure it out on my own with peoples help here so ty for all the help everyone has been giving!

This should be able to work as I cant believe you are forced to use only a verizon router with a FIOS setup!

You're not in anyway, and i've already posted links that explain in great detail how to avoid using ANY of their equipment besides the ONT itself and the set top boxes for your TV.

Optical network terminal, the unit that converts the fiber into Ethernet (or coaxial depending on your setup)

I'm assuming since you have a recent installation you're on Ethernet since Verizon mostly doesn't do any coaxial installs anymore.

Verizon requires MoCA (coaxial) internet connection for their TV set top boxes to get all of their features. To do this you can use the provided FiOS router which has a built in MoCA bridge, or you can use a standalone Ethernet to MoCA adapter and then use any router you want (though you might have to forward some ports manually). Just plug in the ONT Ethernet connection into the routers WAN port, then use a MoCA adapter and then connect the Ethernet end to a LAN port on your router, then connect the coaxial side of the adapter to your houses coax runs (assuming your house is wired with coax).

If you don't have TV service it's even easier, just plug whatever router you want to use into the ONT's Ethernet connection and you're good to go. You can use literally any router you want assuming you don't have TV service.

At the end of the day, everyone has different needs, and any answers you get here based on the information you've provided thus far will be educated guessing, you simply haven't provided enough information about your specific needs and the exact situation for us to do anything besides guess.

Further, Verizon has no responsibility to train their employees to work on potentially 100+ different router models from a dozen manufacturers. They are only trained on THEIR equipment, expecting any sort of technical support from verizon in configuring someone else's equipment is just silly.

If you have TV, you still need coax for TV service. FiOS delivers TV over coaxial, however if you want all of the features of the set-top boxes you need to introduce a MoCA signal on your coax as well. Which is what I mentioned earlier.

Ethernet is more or less a requirement for FiOS internet these days, so you need both Ethernet and Coax since you have internet and TV. The reason they require Ethernet installs these days are so they can upgrade customers to higher speed tiers (like 1gbps) without having to send out a technician, they just have to re-provision you for the new speed and it's good to go. Previously with coax installations any speed beyond 100mbps required switching to Ethernet, so anytime someone upgraded from 50mbps to 150 or 300mbps they had to send a technician out to rewire for Ethernet. So these days they simply do Ethernet installations as the default option in order to reduce technician visits later down the line.

I still don't particularly understand what you want to use the netgear router, it's almost exactly the same performance as the FiOS quantum gateway. The FiOS router is AC1750, the netgear is AC1900, in 95% of situations you'll never notice a performance difference.

If you just prefer the interface of the netgear more or something then i'd recommend just paying up for a MoCA adapter and just remove the FiOS quantum gateway from your network entirely. DSLreports again, has MANY threads of people doing this, pretty sure some users on there even have the specific ports you need to forward for the proper TV set top box guide info and that kind of stuff. Since I don't have TV service I haven't paid too much attention to that.

My tv and verizon router are hooked up side by side and I am using 1 hdtv right now and most likely for the future as I dont want to pay rent on more than 1 cable box and I have DTVN that I use for all 4 of my HDTVs and if needed I can hook up the already installed coax cable to hook up more cable boxes.

I have the unhooked coax being used by my ota antenna to cover my locals and I have each hdtv being fed by internet some with wired some wireless using amazon fire feeding them prime plus DTVN which stands for DirecTV Now which I will keep as it's only $40 with new price increase that be on my next bill.

That is the 2nd part of my setup and require good wireless connections.

So with my setup I have my netgear router in the middle of my living room and I have just run internet cable and getting that cable from my verizon router also I have another internet wire going across my ceiling to my bedroom PC using a switch to be able to get as many of my connections to be wired to my network.

So I reading this webpage and is this the way I can get my netgear router working? I tried this yesterday and unplugged the verizon wan connection and used a coupler to run the verizon internet cable to the back of my netgear router

https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet/Using-your-own-router-with-Verizon-FiOS/td-p/851632

I also reading this thread but unsure how to get the verizon router and netgear router connected to wan internet cable

https://www.groundedreason.com/use-router-fios-internet/

I think I am close to fixing this but need more info!

Look you misunderstood before I had 2 switches I was using to connect to my network and eventually one was replaced with my netgear router now the only reason I would put the switch back is to keep all my network still wired together so if my netgear was only able to act as basically a expensive switch due to it not be recognized since I added verizon I can use either devices as my switch! Are you able to follow what I am saying thats about plainly as I can post it?

I'm saying, you only get one dynamic (DHCP-assigned) IP address from the ONT's ethernet connection at a time. If you connect the ONT to a switch, and then connect two PCs, only one of them (the first one) will be able to access the internet.

At this point just hoping how to change my verizon to my netgear so if I need to buy something else I will do that and as I earlier posted I want to have my internet tv and I guess phone not in the equation lol but have all 3 services working!

If I need to get verizon out here to change my setup I will better to know asap while I can still tell them to cancel my contact!

I am connected to my verizon router 1st then connected to either a switch and a router or 2 switches this has nothing to do with using my switch as a router or modem I sorry if that was not explained well enough on my earlier post.

So, you are using the FIOS router, as your primary router, connected to the ONT via ethernet for your WAN connection, correct?

Do you want to add the Netgear to your network, as an AP, for wifi usage, or do you want it to take over primary routing duties? (AFAIK, it's not any faster than the G1100 Verizon QG, for wired routing speeds.)

I redid these steps but I had to leave the wan connection connectented and my 2 routers are connected using a lan port and had do a few reboots to work as well!

Also I get a new help setup with my netgear router that changed my ip address to 10.0.0.1. for the netgear router and once I was done and added the new info from the new help I got from netgear router it let my configure my wireless and my admin settings so everything looks good so far and with new ip address for both routers I can access both there settings that way so that is great imho :)
