How to use Creative Alchemy?

It auto-detected one game.

So for the rest....I just click add. Type in the name of the game & paste the game path and click ok. Then click it over to ALchemy enabled games?

Right? I don't need to do it by registry path? Or install into a sub folder? Or mess with any of the other settings?

Hope I'm doing it correctly. Kinda of pain as it's very low on documentation.

So? Does this restore hardware EAX? I know it restores the 3D audio. However does off load on the CPU or use the sound card? Just curious. I heard Vista & 7 changed how it handles sound which is why you have to use creative alchemy for EAX games.

Alchemy installs OpenAL, which is an audio layer that sits on top of the "new" protected audio path stack in Windows. Alchemy does its trickery from there, thus enabling EAX in applications that support it.

It's kind of moot now though, since most newer apps simply use the build in audio layers or third-party audio libraries which use that layer.

But yeah, you pretty much you're doing what you're supposed to do.

It's not moot for all games made before the the newer audio layers. I mean I have plenty of games that I pop in once in a blue moon.

Anyways I tried it on GTA 3, Vice & San Andreas. The audio does sound more lively now.

Glad I did it right. LOL!

In my original post I said it auto-detected 1 game. Thanks for stating the obvious. Next time read my post.

Thanks anyways.... *shrugs*

I wish it auto-detected all the games and it was as simple as that pic.

Indeed. This thread reminded me to check for any updates for Alchemy... Nothing. 65 games installed, and only one is actively supported. Not really worth dealing with, IMO (sometimes activating games, even if they were in the list by default, caused problems, ex. WoW would crash).

I have an X-Fi and Win 7, but have never even looked at anything called Alchemy. What's the point?

If a game supports EAX it will sound more lively.

It's also not very hard to use & Alchemy is free.

So why not?

You can if the game uses OpenAL (as has been discussed), Alchemy is only for older games which use Direct Sound.

I believe this was already understood based on prior posts in the thread. If it wasn't clear, I meant, "You can't enable EAX in old games."
