how to use apt get on Ubuntu server 12.10

anyone know how to get apt get working
on ubu server 12.10? by default it only searches the CDROM....I have commented that out of the apt sources, but how do I make it possible to DL and install packages like the default behaivor on Ubuntu desktop???... seems weird to me they wouldnt already have the proper repo in the apt sources.list file

What repos are in your sources list? It should work the same as the desktop.

I think that messed up when installing..... I found a page that generates them for you and now it works....not sure how I would have figured it out otherwise

You should have also been able to use synaptic to select the repositories and have it fix your sources.list.
