How To use AIM in your posts/sigs

Train

Lifer
Well since everybody and thier monkey has thier AIM name posted in thier sig, or in posts I decided this just might be useful around here.

not exactly a FuseTalk enhancement, but if you want to do AIM links in posts or in your sig, use the following URLs, it redirects to aim: links, which are not supported in FuseTalk (yet) you will need to replace the end of each URL with the appropriate screen name or chat room.

If you want to have a link to send you an IM:
[ L = IM Train ] http://www.racemonster.com/goim.asp?screenname=ypsineil[ / L ]
(without the spaces)

or for a link to add a name to a buddylist:
http://www.racemonster.com/addbuddy.asp?screenname=ypsineil

or to link to a chat room:
http://www.racemonster.com/gochat.asp?roomname=TeamAnandTech

These will work if you have AIM 2.0 or higher running, i have it in my sig and it seems to work fine for me. They are simple 3 line ASP scripts, which should run pretty fast, but if you are on a slow comp or slow connection, it may take a second for the AIM window to come up.

I tried again, still no go for IE 5.5 SP1. I even reinstalled the lastest version of aim.

oh well, I got it working in IE 5.0

guess it wont work for everyone, sorry guys 🙁

maybe ill change it to a JavaScript redirect to make it more universal....

What exactly do i put in my signature to get it to show up it just puts the text of the http: when I try

Hey thanks Train, it works great! 🙂

skywhr: Put [ L=IM GirlFriday]http://www.racemonster.com/goim.asp?screenname=Yeeny26[ /L]without the spaces and replace your nick with mine, like Train said, and it should work just fine. I had to check the link after I put it in, it seemed to put an extra http:// in my address. But once I took that out, it worked great.

For those of you who want to use this feature on their own sites, but want the direct route...

aim:goim?screenname=dcdomain&message=Hi.+Are+you+there?

Just replace 'dcdomain' with your own screenname.

aim:addbuddy?screenname=dcdomain

Adds the screenname to their buddylist. Again, replace 'dcdomain' with your own screenname.

aim:gochat?roomname=dcdomain

Allows the person who clicks on it to go to the designated chatroom. Again, replace 'dcdomain' with another name...
