Since there is no power connector, how would you use this drive on a desktop computer ??
One of our laptop crashed, and winxp will not start. I did every possible method to get windows xp to start but it wont. There are some files there that hasnt been backed up yet, so I am thinking of connecting the drive to a desktop as a secondary drive and moved the file temporarily.
Any info on getting 2.5" drive to work on a desktop system is greatly appreciated.

Thanx

2.5 -> 3.5 Adapter kits -- cyberguys.com sells them, probably newegg.com and many others.

Even CompUsa sells them for under $10. Its just a cable that converts an 80 pin connector(data+power) into a normal connector+power connector.

put the adapter on the right direction and be carefull not to bend the pins. Ontrack charges ~$1700 to recover data

Oh dear god yes. Triple-check the pin orientation, especially the power pins.

yeah, the adapters I've seen aren't keyed (ie "idiot proof"). I almost started my laptop drive with it backwards after my laptop fried because I was in a hurry to get my data off the drive.

Adapters are OK - but I prefer to use my old laptop drives as external data drives in Firewire/USB 2 enclosures. I am using two of them that way. The enclosures come with power modules.
