How to upgrade my WinXP Boot harddisk

hasu

Senior member
I wanted to upgrade my main harddisk, where I have installed Windows XP, to a bigger one. I tried to use Norton Ghost to copy all the two partitions which I have in it into the new harddisk. But when I change the old harddisk with the new one, XP won't boot .. it will come and stay at the XP splash screen reading "Loading Windows XP". Any idea how to go about it?

Questions:
I presume you used Norton Ghost 2002? Only Ghost 2002 is XP compatable.
Did Ghost say that the clone/copy was created successfully? If not you have to do it again.
When you encounter your problem are you running the smaller drive as a slave? If so you might try and remove that and boot.

Suggestions:
Run Ghost again. I have never had a problem with 2002, and I have changed my hard drives, altered the size of the partitions, etc, with no problems.

Dump Symantec's Ghost and buy PowerQuest's DriveCopy 4 as it works flawlessly to clone from one hard drive to another. DriveCopy 4 comes with its own BOOT disk and works from DOS. You get a perfect cloning every time. I used DriveCopy on Win98 & SE, ME and now XP and it always works with zero problems. The price is right also.

Yes, I used Ghost which came with System Works 2002. When I first switched on the comp with new hard disk, the old one was also in there as slave.
I will remove that and try again ...
