I recently bought a Verbatim CDRW burner at Staples and I want to upgrade the firmware so that it's recognized as a Liteon Drive. Currently my drive is recognized as a Verbatim 321240AL with firmware of X8S1. I have heard that once the drive is recognized as a Liteon drive, then you can overclock it to 40x recording speed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I JUST did this to my verbatim after having some compatability problems with my burning programs.

Everything works great now... this is what I did...

Download the latest firmware. In your case it is the Lite-on 32123S. I think the latest version is xs0x and you can download it from cdfreak. You will also need to download the mtkflash utility.

Follow the instruction found in this forum

Club CD Freaks - LiteOn Fourm

I hope that this helps. I would make sure that you back up the old firmware first. Just make sure that you have plenty of room on the disk if you use a floppy.

You can change it to the actual lite-on firmware, you just can't overclock it.

I think that geckojohn just wanted it to be a lite-on drive instead of a verbatim. That can be done.
