How to update Win 2K AS???

I downloaded a patch for IE or some such. I want to update my box, Win2K AS. When I run the update, I get the error message below....

"Please switch the Windows Terminal Server to Install mode before running Windows Update: Internet Explorer and Internet Tools Setup"

Ok....What is Windows Terminal Server, how do I check what mode it's in, and more importantly, How do I change it?!

I wish I could......

Stash, good post and thank you. One problem....
I do know a bit about the OS. So, I installed it as a remote administration to manage it from work. I assumed that perhaps to install an update I needed to be in app mode, so as such I un-re sintalled as an application mode setup. Still no go. I thought maybe I goofed the first time around, so un-re (AGAIN!) installed as remote amdin mode (The original mode I was in) still no go.

Any thoughts as to why even in remote admin mode it still gives me that error message?

Terminal Services is set as follows...

Server Mode: Remote Administration
Delete Temp Files: Yes
Use temp folders: Yes
Active Desktop: Enable
Permission Comp: Windows 2000 Users

All IIS functions shut down except for the FTP server (I will admit, because I know jack about the IIS side....For now....)

I'm not sure why you would still get that message. My advice would be to remove TS completely, then reboot. Then I would try reinstalling TS in remote administration mode and reboot again (even though it isn't required). Then see if you get the error.

If that fails, you could always remove TS completely, update the box, then reinstall TS. Kinda clunky, but short of a reinstall, that may be the only way if the above procedure doesn't work.

Thanks Stash. For some reason, the very obvious fix of removing it eluded me....Ah, the genious of simplicity 😀

Anyways, removed it, found out the update I had was outdated anyways. Go figure huh?

So, did a few other updates, everything runnin A-Ok now. Wont bother to re-install TS, hell, never used it anyways.

Thanks man!
