My roommate takes his Fusion to the dealer for sync updates. Probably a dealer only thing.

Just an FYI, if you have in car nav on the SD card, DO NOT update sync until you get a new maps SD card. If you update, your nav won't work. Happened to me back in 2012 when I bought my Focus. Had to go to the dealer to get a new SD card.

EDIT: Looks like that issue may be resolved.

Yep, put the file on a USB stick. Mine didn't have an issue but I've read of people having to try several different sticks before it works. I've only had one update since I got my car though.

I had to go through a few sticks before it would work on my Explorer...but eventually it worked. I don't have Nav for the record.

I tried doing it on my wife's 2009 Ford Escape, but I could never get it to read the file on the USB key.

Might need FAT32 and the USB was NTFS or vice versa.

UConnect works well. Type in your VIN and it spits out the latest version for your revision. It worked surprisingly well for me the one time i did it about a month ago. It took quite some time and for a while I thought it was hung up on a progress indicator but it finished up eventually. I was freaking since I've watched motherboards brick under similar circumstances.

Download the .zip from Ford and unzip it onto a USB stick. You may need to go into the menu and select install update, but mine in my FiST started it automatically.

Also, if you have any USB devices plugged in, unplug them before starting the car. Oh and it takes like 25-30 minutes to install.

Digging around for my manual but can not find them.

create an account at syncmyride.com From there you can download the update to a USB stick. It will walk you through the process. You can also take it to your local dealer.
