You can install a new BIOS in Windows or in a DOS environment (not DOS in Windows).

I have always done BIOS update via a floppy in DOS. But MB manufacturers recommendations vary. Be sure to read your MB guide !!!

Good luck!!!

how exactly do i install it though windows?
RTFM? It differs from mobo to mobo. Go to the web site of the manufacturer, navigate to the bios downloads page, and there should be a link somewhere explaining how to do it. You may have to use a boot-diskette and flash through DOS. I'd recommend that path anyhow; suppose your OS crashes mid-flash.
