How to update AMD CCP property?

Its been six years since I updated an AMD card (then ATi) and was wondering what is the proper way to update it? For Nvidia, you just open the driver package and install. But from memory, with a X1600 I had to uninstall the current driver, reboot safe mode then install the new version of the driver? Is this still true?

that wasn't the question. I wanted to know if UNINSTALLING old drivers was NECESSARY prior to installing new ones

Generally, not required at all. Install new drivers over old, done. If you run into issues, then you completely wipe all drivers, CCP, etc, and install the new ones. Also applies to Nvidia. Neither should require Safe Mode.
