I'm trying to update my abit bp6 bios so that it can function properly with a 120gb disk :p
I found the update on their webpage, no problems. I found some award bios update program, no problems.

The problem is that the bios update program only works in win9x and not win2k or xp, so how do I update it?

I have always flashed the BIOS from a floppy disk which I booted to.

the OS installed is irrelevant, since you are flashing from a bootable floppy.

I think you need to read the BIOS upgrading helps at the ABit site again before you try this.

The steps I take:

I download the BIOS update from ABit site.

I put a new floppy in the A: drive and format it making it a system (bootable) disk

I unzip the contents of the downloaded file to the floppy

I put in the floppy and re-start my computer

I type runme when it has finished booting to the floppy. (windows is NOT running)

when the flash is complete, I exit the flash program (F10)

I turn off my machine

I pull the power plug on the computer after it is turned off

I clear CMOS using the MoBo jumper

I replace the power cord, remove the floppy and turn on the machine

I hit DEL to enter CMOS setup and set everything where I want it

I save and exit.... re-boot.... done!

Use Winimage to create a bootable DOS floppy, and imbed the BIOS image and the AWDFlash proggy on the disk. Then set your floppy as the first boot device and it'll take you to the command prompt. Follow the flash instructions for AWDFlash and should be no problem. Just don't reset while its flashing. :)

thanks, exactly what I needed, something to create a boot disk for me :p

sucks having only win2k or xp computers in the house when you need a bootdisk
