how to unlock bartons?

i'm thinking of ordering a barton 2500+ from newegg cuz they're cheap, and my old 1700+ needs replacing. i've been searching the net to figure out how to unlock it, and i've read that you simply need to bridge the 5th L3 connection. is this true? i trust you guys more than some random site on the net...

Default for Barton 2500 is 11X, L1 bridges are closed, so the only mod/s needed might be to reset the 5th bit from default LO to HI if you want/need Multipliers higher than 12.5X.
(previous post says to close the 5th L3, not true as the 5th L3 is already closed from the factory). See....

Link to Workarounds article which explains what happens if you reset the 5th bit HI...the new default becomes 3X, a mobile Power Now setting that desktop cpus do not boot. It's all in the article.

But for Multis from 5X thru 12.5X you should not have to do any mods.

so you are saying that the barton 2500 comes factory unlocked? i find that hard to believe...

has anyone unlocked a barton? what did you do?

Nothing needs to be done. It is unlocked.
 
I've got a soyo board kt400 are you guys saying that if I buy any barton 2500 off the shelf I will be able to oc it without unlocking it.
What are the settings.
