quick question...

i heard setting a NIC to "promiscuous mode" can be bad, allowing all frames that would normally get dropped to be accepted by your NIC, which can also pose a security risk...

is there a way to set your NIC to this mode, or do any other kind of configuration to your NIC, such as set it to 100Mbps (instead of autosensing 10/100Mbps)?

What specific NIC and workstation OS?

As an example, in Win2K:

My NetWork Connection
Local Areas Connection
Properties
Configure (for the NIC)
Advanced

Options there will vary from NIC to NIC.
