how to tweak new Nvidia drivers for benchmarking?

OK so my Ti4200 scored 13,500 3dmark01 or so when I had it overclocked.
this was with older, simpler det drivers.

after installing the newer drivers versions, i was only getting around 11,000.

now after getting a 6800GT and installing the new beta Dets, Im only getting 14,000 in 3dm01...not much of a leap there!
I also get 8600 in 3dm03. That just seems MISERABLE.

what gives?

there are so many new options to tweak in the new drivers that I feel like Im overlooking things?

I try turning things off that I dont know what they do...Direct3d tab has something to render frames ahead.... do i set that to 0?

ahhh. im confused and scared, help! heh...

but really...
AXPM 2400+ @ 2500mhz
512MB PC3200 @ 416ddr fsb
6800GT @ 420/1140mhz

somethin just isn't right here.

suggestions, boys?

thank you. you guys are my heroes.

If you overclock an nvidia card too high itll throttle down performance under load if it gets too hot. Monitor the card temperature while you run one of the tests.

Also 3d01 is all cpu.

ooo i was aware of the throttle function on the GFFX series cards...is that still present?

I guess I should clock back down to stock.

so in drivers, threshold is set at 120c. I enabled 'alarm' or whatever the checkbox in there is...is that something that will POP UP telling me im running hot, or just throttle the chip?

as far as 3d01 goes, my CPU has been UPGRADED since then! at 2300mhz on a barton desktop I hit 13,000 with a ti4200...now Im running 2500mhz barton mobile and getting a miserable 14,000!

good thoughts on throttling though. didnt know thats still implemented.

Do you have AA\AF enabled? It'll only throttle once the GPU gets too hot, not when the clock speeds are too high. My FX5900 starts throttling at about 110C, with a "warning" (more like a "the card is going to explode, back away from the computer NOW!" warning) temp of 140C.

i was sure to disable it in drivers.

i know the throttling is thermally controlled.
I just didnt know they did THROTTLING in the 6 series... although I guess thats the point of temp sensors anyway...heh pretty pointless to look at numbers and not do anything with them!

so it does actually TELL you the card is too hot? cause if that was the case, wouldnt it be yelling at me interrupting my benches?
or maybe it lowers speed BEFORE it tells you something, so im only hitting the front end of the throttle and notification process?

i dunno.
damn it makes me mad hah
