how to turn off my laptop touchpad

To be more clear - I want to turn off ONLY the feature where you can click by tapping the touchpad. I still want to use it to move the mouse pointer around, and the buttons of course.

The problem is, this is a used laptop, and I can't find a touchpad control program anywhere on this thing, and it doesn't show up in ControlPanel->System.

The reason I want to turn it off - it's gotten too sensitive. I'm trying to move the pointer, and it thinks I've clicked.

thanks,

rick

Under Control Panel > Mouse, try setting the double-click speed to the far left (slow). Also, tweakUI can be used to adjust sensitivity.

Almost every touchpad is manufactured by Synaptics. Go to their page and check out their support site. You should be able to use their software to take complete control over your touchpad on your laptop. Even better, who is the manufacturer. 9 times out of 10 the mfg. has the drivers/programs for this.
