Just curious what is available for tuning in a new TV so you get the correct balance of all the settings...

Thanks for reading.

After looking at the reviews on Amazon...it doesn't look too enlightening...

I haven't heard good things regarding the Avia tuning discs although I have never used one just from reviews...

You could pay an ISF certified tech to come calibrate yours...

Your options are simple:

1. Leave it on factory (Blast the Contrast!) settings.
2. Use a "THX Optimizer" on one of your dvd's that has it (Any Lucas Film, as well as others).
3. Buy or rent either Avia or Digital Video Essentials. If you rent, the box may not include the necessary lens for setting color and tint.
4. Pay an ISF calibrator

I use avia and video essentials. They are cheap and contain most of the patterns you need. essentials comes in HD version to doing HD as well. I consider these must own if you are getting into home theater or HD.

I second heyheybooboo. If you don't have time/are too lazy to get a DVE or Avia disc...

1) head over to AVSForum.
2) go to the display devices/LCD forum.
3) search for a topic of your TV/brand. They have topics for most TV's. Typically you'll want a "settings/tweak thread" as opposed to an "owner's thread" (though the owner's thread would be useful for other things).
4) people leave the settings they've used and usually how they achieved those settings (DVE, Avia, etc.). Usually there's a consensus but not always, so don't take each person's settings as the holy grail.

Oh, and here's a quick tip... don't ever use vivid/dynamic mode. Always use standard or cinema.

heyheybooboo & fanerman91...

Thanks for the information, I forgot about AVSforums...I will be heading over there for some much needed reading.

I agree on you comment fanerman91...I didn't much care for the vivid/dynamic mode...

Thanks again guys!,
