How to transfer Contact data to WinXP?

I have Outlook 2000 installed on my new winxp machine. When I try to import the contact data from my previous install of Outlook 2000 on a Win98 machine using the import wizard and the copied *.pst file, I get prohabitions such as "properties must be defined before you import .pst file" and "you do not have the authority to import .pst file" Any suggestions?
