How to track a USPS package?

USPS really doesn't have an up-to-date or advanced tracking system.

If you need to know where it is up to the minute, UPS/FedEx.

FedEx and Airborne are probably cheaper than UPS. UPS also has a much higher tendency to bash around your packages.
USPS has delivery confirmation only, except if you use their Express Mail it will be tracking. Tracking is kinda worthless with USPS Express Mail as it is usually overnight and thus says only 2 or 3 things. I guess it would be useful if they routed it wrong as you will then see where it was routed to.
Check out USPS Express Mail before you look at the faster services of FedEx and Airborne as it might be cheaper.

Maybe you could attach your own GPS tracker to the package....? Cause if you ship it USPS, you won't know where it is until it's delivered. I once ordered a package from CA that got sent to the wrong zip code (USPS fault) It crossed the country 3 times....I got it a month later.

Let me add...if you want to send something and REALLY know where it is via USPS, send it Registered mail. That's their sacred cow of mail class. It's not as fast as express, but any person that touches it, has to sign for it.

Tracking a USPS package is easy:
a) with delivery confirmation, just check the USPS web site about three days after the package is delivered and it may have delivery information

There are also signature confirmation, certified mail, but i have no experience with these.
