short version :

280 mb .vob ~ 6 minutes ; I want to lose the audio and replace with my own music. What editing programs and how do i use them ?
----
Long version :

My brother in law and niece did a fine job *sarcasm* of taping me on motorcycle with vhs camera and even blasted janis joplin from the car stereo while doing it - nothing against janis but she's been dead 40 yrs - how about something a little more, oh i dunno, 21st centuryish ???

So i recorded to dvd then my comp using magnavox dvd recorder dvd -rw to comp.

Now i have that .vob file of about 280 megs

I've googled mucho but although now less ignorant i am much more confused.

I take it that the ac3 file needs be stripped out and my own put in its place.

I have several dvd progs on my comp at home like dvdshrink, decrypter, ffmpeg, etc but at work right now so don't remember all...and oh yeah i registered at doom9.org so i could post my newbie ?'s but it makes you wait five days to post...

so in a nutshell

What programs and procedure would I use to get unwanted audio out and desired audio in ?

thank you for your attention :)

Windows Movie Maker comes with Windows XP SP2. It will let you ADD audio either from your computer or via narration/microphone. But I'm not sure you can STRIP the audio.

You may need to rip it with DVD Shrink, delete the audio track, save the file, then add your own audio when you recompile the video.

OR...do you still have the original tape? If so , recopy from tape to your PC, but just leave the audio cable disconnected. :) That makes the process a LOT easier.

thanks for the info, i didn't even know about ms moviemaker lol

since it didn't seem to want to handle the vob i converted to avi then used moviemaker to edit. And to mute the original soundtrack which i'll replace with my own recorded guitar stuff.

and then back to vob/dvd using ffmpeg ...
