How to thoroughly test an ATA card?

I have a Maxtor ATA133 card that is believed to be dead, but if it is, it must be half alive because I can still boot off of it. The person said it is responsible for data corruption in the box it was pulled from. What util for linux (or a DOS bootdisk) can I use to test it?
