How to test my IBM SCSI HDD to see if it is going bad?

My 36LZX is getting dog slow and I want to test it. I just installed it and it already seems to be acting weird.

I ran HDTach (the only HDD utility I possess) and it has some pretty bad numbers, but I don't know if that is just because the drive is slow or if it is a bad drive.

Any suggestions?

make sure you enabled writeback cache, set the right mb/s, and enabled sync. transfers!
