How to test if my video card is bad ?

About 3 weeks ago i built a new system as follows:

Shuttle XPC SN95G5
A64 3500+
1 GIG PC3200
ATI 9800 PRO

I did some tweaking with Rage 3d Tweak, and a few config adjustments in Doom3 to get the best frame rate possible. I ran ATI Tool to see about overclocking, but nothing was stable over the base cpu and memory speeds. Maybe that is the first sign of a bad card, since even a few MHZ increase presented artifacts.

I upgraded the card drivers to the ATI 4.12 beta, but at that point i started having texture problems in Doom3 and Far Cry. Especially when alot of action would be going on. I had my system hang a few times and the ATI VPU recovery came up.

I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled ATI 4.11 drivers. This didnt fix the problem. I also have had a few crashes during less graphic intensive games like Sims. Desktop refreshes seem a little slower than before and there is almost "Ghosting" when i move windows around.

I dont know how to really diagnose it other than what has been happening sporatically. Would these type of problems be strictly associated with the graphics card? Or could it be RAM as well ? Would this be grounds for an RMA from newegg?

Any help would be appreciated.

I find it unusual that nothing over stock core/mem settings is stable?

What PSU (brand, wattage, amps on the 12v rail)?

If you are not satisfied with the card..
then..why not try to RMA it ???

Newegg will say either yes or no. What have you got to loose ???

Or am I missing something here????
