How to test HD for NAS

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying a Synology DS213 and getting 2 2TB WD Reds. I've read many references to testing HDs using the Ultimate Boot CD. However, those references have never been very specific as to process or which tools. How does one actual test a new HD that is going into a NAS using the UBCD? I assume that I have to hook up the HD to my PC, boot using the UBCD, and then use a particular tool. Is that the overall process? Which tool is the right one for my particular application?

Or can I install the drives in the NAS and run the tool to test the HDs while in the NAS?

Any other approaches that I should know about?
