How to temporarily relieve toothache? - Gone a bit - I have an abscess :( Buhbye Mr. Tooth

Yeah, I'm an idiot, shoulda had better oral hygeine, but I have a really bad toothache, can't sleep/eat etc, and paracetamol does absolutely nothing.
I got about an hours sleep last night, and I feel really bad.
Having water in my mouth helps, as long as it's cool, but there has to be something that can stop it until I can get to the dentist 🙁

(yeah, I'm going to get flamed, but it's really bad)

Let that be a warning to you all, sucks not to look after your teeth 🙁

do you have a dental appt? if you are in that much pain they have to see you right away. hint: tell them the pain is keeping you up at night.

temp otc relief - try some excedrin
or else ask the ppl at the dentist's office what you can do in the meantime when you call for that appt.

Can I put money down now?

I say root canal or a tooth pull.

Trying to think of anything that helped me through the darkest hours. Before one of my root canals I was just in agony. Tried ibuprofen, naproxen, etc. (read: just yer basic stuff) and it rarely helped, if ever. Tried "medicating" with beer. Didn't help a thing.

Might "try" some oragel/orabase. Just smear the hell outta your gums with it.

Get to the dentist asap for some relief. The bill took 25% of my annual income (but I'm an actor. 😉 )

The lucky thing is I'm in the UK and in full time education, so the dentist is free, that also means no alcohol though, and I don't know if I'm registered with a dentist at the moment, so I'll have to have find that out and see if my Dad can sort out 🙁

Might have to go out and get me something stronger then 🙁

I'm having a toothache in a crooked wisdom tooth that 2 diff dentists refuse to touch until I pay for 3 "Deep Cleanings" ... Fscking Bastages.

This will screw up your stomach, but it may be worth it... Aleve and Tylenol. The tylenol reduces the swelling and the Aleve helps with the pain. Either by themselves won't do enough. But together you'll get results.

It's not good for you, and as I said your stomach will be screwed up, but the pain goes away for like 10 hours if you do 2 of each.

I've had the exact same thing. If you want to know about the cool water, it's simply law of gases. You've got an infection and the gases are expanded with the heat in your mouth. With cold water, it compresses the gas and the pain goes away.

You can either ride out the infection and hope it doesn't spread to your jawbone or further around your mouth. Or, you can go see a dentist and get a perscription for penicillian. In about 2 days, you will start to get relief as the penicillian kicks in. More than likely, that will be followed by a root canal or pulled tooth. Neither is all that bad, unless it's a bottom mollar and it is somehow intertwinded with jaw nerves.

I also got some Hydrocodones when I saw the doctor initially. Those didn't work at all. I was up for about 3 days because I couldn't sleep. I went through about 4 or 5 gallons a day. The last night I got sick from having so much water in my system. My advice is stop drinking the water now. Get two cups. Fill up the mouth, spit it out when you feel the pain. Repeat. Get to a dentist ASAP!

Yep. America has 3rd world status when it comes to dental care.

I have no dental insurance, 2 weeks ago one of my crowns fell off- go to a dentist find out there's alot more problems then just that- $3000, right there.

I now have to decide whether I want to be in pain and full, or good teeth with less to eat.

Booze. Lots of it. You will forget your pain. In fact you will forget most everything.

I hope you have dental insurance. I had 2 visible cavities and it ended up being 7 more smaller ones, total cost $1400.

Jack Daniels my friend, Just rub some on the tooth. I've had toothaches before that only my friend Jack could take care of.

Thanks for the advice people.

I got some more painkillers (different kind to the ones I used before)
Seemed to have helped, managed to get to sleep last night 🙂

Turns out I have an abscess and need to get the tooth removed 🙁 Got a prescription for something that should help, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up.

Cheers for the advice, hopefully current painkillers can last me until tomorrow.

I had the same problem about 5 years ago. I was going to suggest the cool water. That's the only thing that helped me. But, as you know, it's temporary, and you have to have cold water in your mouth at all times. Until you get it pulled, there's not much you can do. I feel for you. Get to the dentist ASAP!
