How can you tell if a DVD is in PAL or NTSC? Looking for something that actually states it. So please dont say "put it in a player that won't play PAL and see if it plays". :)

Nothing there to answer my question, but that's an interesting page, and makes me wonder if the problems each format has will be fixed with HD DVD's (or HDTV?)?

Also I had already tried looking at the DVD in windows and with WMP, and looking at file properties, but couldn't find anything. But I just discovered PowerDVD tells the video format under configuration/information.

I "read".

PowerDVD will tell you in the information box whether the title is PAL or NTSC and what region code it is.

Well, if you get a really good microscope, you can start inspecting the pits and with a bit of work, probably a couple of days, you can see what the format is. :p

Unless the mfgr wrote it on there, that includes the region code, there is no way to tell without sticking it in a device, unless you have a microscope...

DVD media does not care about the video format. It is format neutral. Video is just data, whether WMV-HD/MPEG-4/DIVX/MPEG-2 and PAL/NTSC/SECAM. It is the player that cares.

If you live in America, stick it in your DVD player. If it plays then it's Region 1 (America), if not then I bet it's PAL.

EDIT: I wish I read the OP. Looks like I said what you didn't want me to say.

This isn't always going to work, as Region 2 also includes Japan, which uses NTSC.
