How to tell it's a Winchester A64 just by looking at the retail box?

It might say "90nm" somewhere on it, but if it's a 3000+ or 3200+, the "Socket 939" on the front should give it away.

If you're looking at two 3500+ boxes, I don't know what would be different if the process isn't mentioned.

It says, socket 939 on the top left side of the box.

That doesn't make sense to me BW86:

You can have a Newcastle core that is socket 939 and 130nm, 3500+.

Did AMD just decide to put the text "Socket 939" on the top left corner for only the Winchester cores? I purchased a winchester retail 3500+ 90nm, and nowhere on the box does it say anything to confirm it is a 90nm winchester core. I'm looking for the same answer jackeyzhao needs.

Not sure if this helps...

Saw an article somewhere that decodes the numbers and letters on the chip itself. If you can get a look at those (not sure if you can see them through the window), you'll have your answer.

Usually the serial on the bottom will let you know much like the intels do.

You can't! by the box but the serial # on the heat spreader identifies it.

Yes that helps. The retail box exposes the heat spreader visually (still behind plastic) and sure enough mine has the BI just as the screenshot you showed me. So if you're right, then mine is 90nm. This helps a lot. Thanks!

No prob I had this same ques about 1 month ago and emailed AMD so you can be assured that the BI means 90nm
