How to tell if your LCD is 6bit or 8bit?

I have a Viewsonic VA1912wb display, the website for viewsonic doesnt list if its 16.2 or 16.7 million color display...How else can I find out ?

That one is 6-bit. I think all of the 19" widescreens are TNs.

In general, I find it very easy to tell on gradients that are slowly moving around or shifting in color. Even the Hi-FRC models seem to show very apparent dithering in those situations.

The 160/160 viewing angle on the Viewsonic website indicates a TN. Same goes for the other one.

So TN panels are usually 6bit? The FujiPlus website shows the FP-988D having 16.7million color isnt that 8bit?

TNs are all 6-bit. The 16.2/16.7 distinction doesn't really mean anything anymore. There are many 6-bit LCDs advertised as 16.7 these days.
