I have been looking at 533fsb xeons since they are getting cheap, like 2.4ghz ones. I can't tell if they are hyperthreading, intel doesn't say, pricewatch doesn't say. I thought some of the xeons had hyperthreading? As far as I can tell the prestonia is a northwood packaged as a xeon, is it a HT cpu?

All modern Xeons have hyperthreading.

They had it a gen. or so before the p4s got it.

Yep, we ordered an HP workstation for a lady here at work.

Hyperthreading was turned off by default. Turned it on and 4 "cpus" showing :)

I can't wait to build my new system next year, I always go for gen old tech to save money. As long as I double my current rig's performance, (dual xp 1800+) I am satisfied. That's the rule.

Right now it looks like an Asus PC-DL with two 2.4ghz xeons OC'ed to 3.6 w/800mhz fsb, 1.5-2gb of ram, a radeon 9800 XT, an HDTV wonder, and a massive array of ata133 drives, since a 4 channel raid-5 card costs about 100 bucks. It would be used for HDTV capture, rendering, and some gaming.
