I just bought a Gateway GT5056 with an PATA drive. However, it has two SATA ports on the motherboard. So I am wondering whether I could set up a raid configuration on it or not. Does anyone have any idea on what I should look for on either motherboard or in software, bios etc etc

even if the motherboard didn't support raid which it might you could always get a pci sata card that supports raid

btw I hope you weren't thinking of Raid 0

Why not Raid 0?

From what I read Raid 0 doesn't not produce that much of an increase in data speeds, unless you are reading very large files (at least as far as games go)

I don't see a situation right now where raid would be a good deal for me, but mabye in the future. I do a LOT of digital photography so setting up an automatic backup might be a good idea. And I understand that when you use raid 1 your read speeds can increase due to being able to read from multiple sources.
