whelp, i started up my computer and one of the fans, i think it was either my cpu fan or geforce fan sounded like it was going fast, then slowing down, then fast again, etc. Is there anyway i can check the temperature, etc or how fast the fans or going or something? my old computer before this one had it the bios (cpu temp) but this compaq i have has nothing like that, thanks.

well, if the compaq doesn't have onboard temp or RPM fan sensors (which wouldn't surprise me) then you're going to have a difficult time figuring that stuff out.

i don't know of anyway to tell fan RPM w/out a sensor other than just looking at it and making sure it is spinning

if you want to know temps, though, you can buy external temp sensors that you can slide under your cpu and will read the temp from outside the case, or you can even buy a cheesy radio shack in/out temp sensor and mount it by your heatsink or what not...won't be as accurate, but will give you a general idea of case temps.

so you have a compaq?

and you're looking for temperature of cpu.

that might be a bit tough... since you probably won't know the mobo spec.

there's mbm
which measures your cpu temperature.

even with compaq's... in the bios... you should have a temp reading.

as for fan speed measurement,
if your cpu fan has 3 lines coming out and into the mobo,
then there's a possibility of you getting that speed.
if it only has 2 lines coming out... then you're out of luck unless you get your self
one of these
newegg's got them in for 46+4.
but i take it that you probably don't want to spend $50 on a fancy fan control module like that.
