How to tell if case power switch is working? - FIXED

I am building a new system with MSI K8N Neo4 platinum, Antec SLK3000B, and OCZ modstream 450. I installed mobo in case and tested with only vga card, front panel connectors, and case fan hooked up. Mobo POSTed and recognized cpu and mem fine, but case fan was making a loud noise so I tried to press power switch on case to turn off. Neither power switch nor reset switch worked and I didn't check if leds were lit. I was able to ctrl-alt-del to reboot and then I shut off the ups to power down system. The case fan was just rubbing a bit, which is annoying, but not too much of a problem. I tried to power everything back on again, and I'm not getting anything. The psu is not powering on. I tried reversing the front power switch connector, but that didn't work. I'm concerned it's not getting the power on signal. ANybody have any ideas?

For switches, the alignment of the pins doesn't matter.
You should use a screwdriver or something else conductive to connect the PWR-ON pins and see if it powers on, if not try a CMOS reset.

it may be a problem with the motherboard, just take a jumper and stick it on the power on connector. if that doesnt work, its probably the mobo.

Why do you say not to use a screwdriver. You may be right but one time when I was on tech support with Abit, the tech guy wanted me to start the pc with the screwdriver technique. I'm surprised if Abit is requesting something that you shouldn't do.

jumpered the power connector and also reset the cmos. Still nothing. when i hit the switch on the back of the psu, after a few seconds I hear a faint "discharging" like sound. any other ideas?

Pull out all the connectors and Jumper pins then us a screw driver to set the power switch to turn on the computer...

Oh, you wan't know how to troubleshoot your problem. I thought this discussion was about stupid things we can do to your computer. =/

I unplugged everything and re-connected everything for the gazillionth time and this time everything worked including the switch. Unfortunately , I tried it again and it powers up for only a few seconds and then shuts itself off. suggestions?

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I'm not sure if a connector was loose or what, but it seems to be working now. Hopefully it will stay that way during the rest of the build.

Thanks again!
