How to tell if an LCD is TN, IPS, or VA panel?

If you can get into their respective service menus normally you can tell there. Also VA and TN panels will have crappy viewing angles.

right, VA panel tend to have great viewing angles actually... some have up to 178 up and down.

Yep I can vouch for nice viewing angles on my 8bit P-MVA LCD 20" WS,nice colours too,shame that there is a lot of misinformation going about on anything that's not IPS.

So then the Dell 2407WFP is a great monitor to grab then.. especially at the price it's at now! And it's VA.

I apologize, you did not mention you were referring to the 2407. Yes, the 2407 has great viewing angles. It is much better than the 2405. I have the 2405 and I cannot stand the way the colors shift like a gradient when it's supposed to look like a solid color. I've heard nothing but great things about the 2407's viewing angle.
