How to system restore using windows xp disc?

Here's a problem I'm experiencing..... I just installed sp 3 for xp home edition. Everything went through okay and it asked me to reboot. Now.. the funny thing is that my system is not going back to the desktop. It posts and then loops back to post screen after windows logo thing. I want to use the xp disc to use the system restore feature but do not have any clue how I'm supposed to do. No, I can't go to the safe mode because it goes back to the post screen. Please help!!!!
