How to switch active partition from boot cd or xp recovery console

Hello! I recently paritioned my HD into two partitions, and made the 2nd one active and rebooted. Obviously this was a mistake and I am wondering what tools i could use to make my 1st partition active....I dont have a disk drive on my laptop, so it would have to either be from some type of custom CD or the recovery console of my XP install CD. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Diskpart should do the trick. I can't remember if the "active" command in diskpart if available in RC or not but give it a try.

If no luck, just make a boot floppy to get into your OS and correct things.

Things needed for a boot floppy:
Formatted from NT, 2k, XP, 2k3 so that the right MBR written (no windows 9x or DOS!!)
ntldr
ntdetect.com
boot.ini edited to have the correct ARC path of your OS. If you are unsure, run "map arc" from recovery console to get a list.

IIRC diskpart doesn't support "active" in the recovery console, seems like I used a windows ME bootdisk (from bootdisk.com IIRC) to switch the active partition between XP NTFS and my Linux partition when I tried to get Gentoo setup (gave up, I suck) and I recall trying the recovery console first with no success.
edit: can't spell and I used fdisk from the WinMe bootdisk to change active partitions.
