how to STOP XP updates and pop up windows?!?

I got DSL and now my XP OS is constantly giving me pop up windows on updates and little pop ups on info that I could care less about! Is there any way I can disable all of this? I love XP, but not this junk! Please help- I would take advise from anyone!!! Thanks everyone!

Start | Settings | Control Pannel | System | Automatic Updates - Turn off automatic updates. I want to update my computer manually.

If you have My Computer on the desktop you can right click choose properties and get to the Automatic Update tab that way also.

thanks, i was kind of wondering how to get rid of that lol
