How to stop Samsung Magician 4.4 from booting with Windows

Since updating Magician to 4.4 it now loads every time with Windows. It did this before, however if you removed the entry from start up it stopped booting up. Since updating, it now boots up even after the startup entry has been removed. I have also looked in all of the Run and RunOnce folders in the registry but I can't see it there either.

Anyone else having this issue?
 
I agree, it is so annoying. Especially when my security settings need to ask me to run before it starts, so I have a pop up for it everytime I start my computer.
 
I thought that was just me... wondering why it was starting with Windows. :/

You might just have to check MSConfig and disable Magician in the Startup tab.

It IS disabled in Startup... that's the problem.
 
Why did you guys install this software? What benefit does it give you? I own several different brands of SSD's but none of them are Samsungs drives. I'm curious what this Magician does.

It updates the firmware if you don't have an optical drive.

At least, that's the reason I had installed it. I promptly uninstalled it once the firmware was updated.

It's pretty useless, and there's really no reason to pollute your system with it.

Besides updating the FM, it has a nice benchmark utility and, when I had it in my old XP laptop, it performed GC. There is also a system optimization section... I don't fool with that, preferring to optimize it manually (which is becoming a moot point with W8.1, etc, ) and you can set your over-provisioning. It also tells you if the Samsung drive you have is gen-u-wine. :awe:

The installation of RAPID is independent of Magician in its operation; you simply need Magician to turn RAPID on or off. But so? You can eliminate Magician itself from starting at boot-up.

It has a lot of reporting, benching and tweaking features. I'm obviously going to open Magician for any issues pertaining to the Samsung SSD or its performance. And I don't need it "running in background" from the system tray otherwise.

So as far as I see -- if I can eliminate it from Startup -- it's useful to have. I'll have to check again to see if the new version is still loading at startup when I deleted it from the "Start" menu Startup folder. But there is more than one way to skin that cat . . . too . . .

I guess the overriding point of it (as to benefits) is the enabling of RAPID mode in the first place. Here's my latest benchmark -- also posted in another thread. The new version of RAPID uses more available RAM if you have 16GB, for instance, and the benchmark sequential read and write scores are increased by what seems to be a factor of 5:

Magician is a useful utility but the primary reason is because you cannot enable RAPID mode without it. RAPID doesn't need Magician to be loaded to operate so there is no need, contrary to Samsung's belief for it to be loaded all of the time.

Some of the veterans here are reluctant to give up RAID mode, either for a pair of HDDs running under the Intel controller, or any of several other multi-disk RAID configurations. Many were eager to deploy SSDs under a BIOS set for RAID mode, but discovered that the TRIM function was not implemented for certain versions of the IRST software.

But you need AHCI mode to take advantage of RAPID, and if the new version of Magician has not done a magic trick on my eyes and sense of machine responsiveness, a non-RAPID system goes from the confident expectation of near-600 MB/s (~500+) throughput, but RAPID's effect with the latest version is ~10x those basic seq read/write benchmarks.

One possible solution entails adding a small SATA-3 controller to a PCI_E slot with x2 or more lanes. IT could be a modest hardware RAID controller configured as such, in which case you could use the onboard Intel controller for AHCI. Or you could configure the PCI-E card as AHCI, and use the onboard controller for RAID.
 
I find it a useful utility it has smart data , reliability/performance mode settings . It is not necessary to install it but I do. Oh thanks Larry !
