How To... Stop MSN messanger from loading w/OE

I DL'd and installed the latest version of IE. IE 5.5 and it came with an updated version of outlook express.

Each time I start OE, it automatically loads MSN messenger into my system tray.

I ran MSCONFIG and found nothing in there. I looked in the startup folder found nothing there. I looked in the "tools" menu in OE unchecked "automatically log onto MSN messenger" but could find nothing else.

I can not figure out how to disable MSN mess from loading when I start OE.

I figure it is in the Registry somewhere, but I am not very good with that.

Any help??

Thanks

hmmm didn;t think about that. I wonder if MSN messanger is a stand alone program that can be uninstalled.

I'll check.

Thanks

In Win 98SE I have IE 5.5 but MNS Messenger does not normally run. I did not uninstall it, however. While I don't really remember very well, I believe I did this:

Start > Run > MSCONFIG > OK > Startup Tab > uncheck MSMSGS (and anything else you don't want)

I did check in MSCONFIG and there was no entry there.

Following Warlord's advice I ran add/remove programs and guess what, there was an entry there. So, I uninstalled it. I did not shutdown/restart the computer so I will not know if it worked until tomorrow.

But I will let you know.

BTW, I have win98SE and Win2K dual boot at home, I have IE5.5 here also and MSN messenger does not start when I start Outlook Express. I must have answered yes to it while installing on my office computer.

Oh, well, live and learn and learn and learn.

Thanks again,
