I was wondering if their was a way to be able to start windows xp home edition without having to use the login screen? I do not need this on my computer as I am the only user and there is no info on there that is that important. I do have sp2 if that makes a difference.

Get Microsoft's Power Toy called, TweakUI XP.

I believe it will allow you to automatically login..

Hi,

Click start, run, and in the dialog box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes. A window should open, deselect the option saying "users must enter a username and password to use this computer" and click OK. Windows will probably ask for a password, and after that you should avoid the welcome screen.

Do you see '.net user' account in the control panel/users? If so you remove this account, windows should go back to the logon way it was.

Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2. This is a shortcut instead of having to click on Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts.
Uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box.
Click Apply.
Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.
Click OK again and you're all done.

Another way would be to use Regedit, and then drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> Current Version -> Winlogon

and set keys of:

Name Data
------------------------------------------------
DefaultUserName-----> duh
DefaultDomainName-> (probably don't have one at home so leave blank)
DefaultPassword------> duh
AutoAdminLogon------> 1

Actually, if you update .Net Framework to the latest version this bug goes away and you can auto login like you used to. Glad they fixed this, because this annoying bug kept me from using the Catalyst Control Center for a long time.
