How to start a website

So my friend wants to set up a website for his small business for his customers to go online and check prices, read about his services, etc. and he asked me thinking i knew something about creating websites.

Well i dont know the first thing about starting/designing/hosting a website so is there any resources or guides that i can check out that will help me get him started?

I already told him to at least g buy the domain name from godaddy just so he wont have to worry about that, but from there i dont know what else he should do.

Im guessing he can get away with hosting the website himself because the site isnt gonna get that much traffic and im assuming hosting is expensive.

As far as design goes ive heard about free templates, and im sure thats all he needs. I dont know how to put it all together for him.

I really just need to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Usually, internet service providers (ISPs) frown on that.

For a free template and free hosting, Google Sites looks good. I may be about to lose my own hosting, and I may go to Google.

You need to find someone who has experience to do it for him. Learning with a business site is not a good idea.

Be careful with godaddy , the reason their domains are cheap is because they retain the rights to them . Want to transfer it ? They can charge what they like to allow you to do it .

I use steadfast.net , smaller but just as cheap and excellent support.

That doesn't look too bad but is there anyway to lose the www.sites.google.com/site/xxxx?????

Maybe i can set it up so his business will redirect to this site?

So where should i register if not godaddy? I have my own domain name registered under them (ww.myname.com) just so no one can steal it. After hearing that i want to transfer mine to someone else. Does steadfast do domain names as well as hosting?

oh, and you posted in the wrong forum, this should have been in "programming".

sorry 🙁
