How to split digital cable?

for the amount i'm currently paying for regular cable i see no reason not to get digital. now my question is how can i split it off to the rest of my house? i understand not every tv will get the premium channels, but what exactly will i be getting with a split digital connection?

I believe you have to have a box for every tv that you want digital to. Basic cable will be all you get without a box.

Since you need a digital cable box, you can only split the picture coming out of the box. Therefore if you have two tvs hooked into it, you will get the same channel on both TVs.

You can however split the cable before it gets to the digital cable box and plug tv in that way... though only the box with the cable box will get the digital channels.

actually i don't care if all the tv's get premium channels. i wouldn't even see a difference honestly, my current cable provider decided that you can't get anything without digital cable, so all i have is basic.

Funny how the AT&T/Comcast ads attacking "the dish" never mention that point 😉

And now Comcast has an ad attacking dish TV because the channels are compressed just like digital cable.

If I wasn't in an apartment it would be very tempting to tell Comcast what they can do with their cable box 😛

It's the same exact cable but you need a box at each tv to decode the channels.

I just got digital Time Warner installed in my new house. They told me the existing cables cannot handle digital cable so they had to rewire the whole place with better cable. I forget what the number was.

I needed to split the cable because I wanted a cable modem somewhere else. The installer told me not to split the cable too much because it will seriously degrade the signal. He said optimally there would be only one source for each TV.

With Satellite, you have no choice but to have a receiver for each TV. Otherwise you don't get jack crap. With Cable, you can get additional cable channels at your other TV. Like, 70 of them or something. That's plenty of TV for me. With the receiver, you can get PPV and stuff.

Cable is still better that Satellite.

the thing that really pisses me off is i can't get anything without digital cable. i can't even order movies without digital. HBO, Skinemax, etc. . . .all gone. Anyways enough bitching and moaning (believe that's a different thread) thanks for all the great info. this is why i keep on coming back for more.

thanks a bunch
