how to split cable internet and video

i have a line running to my cable modem from the wall. i need to split off a regular cable connection for a pvr/tuner card. will i be able to do that with a normal cable splitter, or will i need a hi/low splitter?

i believe.... just like every channel is a different frequency... so is the internet delivered on.. a different frequency. this is why a lot of people have been able to get away with purchasing cable internet and having the side-effect of getting cable tv... because the line is on and all the frequencies are broadcasted. the only way for the cable companies to stop this is to install a line filter
