How to sound proof car interior?

I got all of the plastic panels out of the saturn (going to be spray painted blue, just doing up the interior, leaving everything else stock) anyways, the car is very squeeky/loud interior wise. What can I do when I put everything back in to make it a nice and especially QUIET interior?

 
yea dynamat-like stuff

but theres nothing you can do about the lousy window seals and such of old cars. small cars started getting a lot quieter after the last generation of corolla came out.

I think its mostly just the plastic interior parts thats rattle like crazy, but your right small cars (my friends new civic) is plenty quiet inside. Just this one drives me crazy, just driving down to work in the morning the rattling pisses me off
 
Be careful not to go too crazy on the dynamat, the stuff weighs a lot and will hurt a lower horsepower car in acceleration and gas mileage.
 
you could probably wing it and use some house insulation. that is a sound deadner too and weighs next to nothing.

yea with the last generation of corollas they added double window seals and probably some sound deadening thats common in those oh so very quiet camrys. civics didn't get start that till this generation. very annoying because all that road noise just increases what your sound system has to overcome to sound reasonable.
 
Hmm, wow Dynamat at bestbuy is really expensive (Canadian) Hmm, maybe gonna go looking for insulation at Home Depot and see if that works. Hopefully something does,

And that comment about using too much dynamat, your right, I wouldnt want to use too much, currently I get over 30mpg, and it could start hurting with more weight in it
 
Lately I have been looking for some peel 'n' seal, but unfortunately my Lowes doesn't carry it. If I can't find peel 'n' seal, I might just use brown bread. Anyone else have any recommendations?

Go to Rona and look in the roofing department. You'll see a Dynamat like substance called ice and water membrane.
It's sold in 12.5cm and 20cm wide rolls that are 10m long. $22 for the small one and $30 for the bigger one.

My Saturn has been quite reliable and good to me for the past two years. Got me through my Masters and should tide me over for many more years. I have owned "better cars" in the past and they all had their flaws. I found that Saturn does a bad job on the sound-proffing area (I attribute this to the plastic bodywork). All-in-all, I am confident that I got a good vehicle for what I paid.

yup as long as you keep an on oil levels and keep up with regular maintence, the saturns from 1991 - 2000 will last forever
 
Hmm..we had a couple of 96-97 LS1s, and my dad did something to help block out a lot of the highway sound. I will ask him when he wakes up.
