how to silence noisy power supply?

hi- i've got a cheap-o case complete with noisy ps- any way to make it more quiet? can the fan be replaced or should i just go buy a new one?

Changing the fan may work but you are probably just better off going out and picking up an Enermax ps for like 30-40 bucks.

Swap the fan. Put a Panaflo or Pabst fan in there. If it's still too noisy, drop the fan speed by running it off 7 volts. Make sure the PS is not overheating because of reduced airflow!

I just put a panaflo L1A into my PSU and it helped a lot.

now the harddrives are the noisiest thing in the case (there's two more panaflos in the case as well)

thanks for your help- since i am a chap beastard i think i will try replacing the fan first, cuz i am saving for a new aluminum case and a new mobo and a new athlon and a new video card and a new...

I was glad to see this thread because I have an EXTREMELY noisey PS that drives me crazy. I thought I bought a nice case too, damn. Anyways, can anyone tell me where I can buy these panaflo L1A fans and if it is fairly easy to replace your PS fan? I built my last few computers, so I'm fairly compitent, but I'm just curious on how easy it is before I jump into it.

you can easily change the fan in the power supply, but if you do so be careful not to touch the capacitors inside...
