Anyone know a cheap way to ship a queen sized mattress and box spring? Can fedex or UPS ship something this big?

Any other ideas? I'll be shipping from IL to CA.

Thanks in Advance.

I think you're going to need a freight carrier for something that big...

Would it be cheaper to sell the one you have now & buy a new one in Cali than shipping it across the country?

I assume both FedEx & UPS would ship it at freight rates.

That must be a very good/memorable mattress, if you're willing to ship it 1/2 way across the country :)

It's not worth it, no matter what. Simply bite the bullet and buy a new set.

A quick quote from Fedex from Chicago to San Francisco is $452... not counting tax. This is assuming they are picking the set up at a residence and dropping it off at a residence... inside pickup/delivery would be an additional $130.

Basically, it's not worth it.

way cheaper to drive it yourself in the back of a u-haul. and if it's not worth driving yourself, it's not a good enough mattress to save.

This would be the ONLY way it's worth it. This is generally why special order sets from retailers cost so much more than in-store sets, the shipping/handling. If they get a truck full of mattresses it's one thing, but sending just one to a person costs a lot more.

If you're moving a lot of stuff, simply rent a truck, move it yourself, it'll cost a few hundred bucks one-way for everything. Otherwise, sell it locally (assuming you can get a few hundred bucks if it's fairly new), then spend the money on a new one when you get there.

Craigslist FTW.

I encountered the same problem moving from CA to MA. I researched lots of different options, and in the end, the best option was to sell my old mattress and buy a new one.

Sell it locally, and then buy an Aerobed. That way, you can take it wherever you go after that :)

What's the best way to sell it? Craiglist? I usually just throw the mattress away when I move.
