I live with about 15 other people, and we are thinking of getting DSL. What would we need to share one dsl line.
Lets say we got a 1.5 mb dsl line with only one ip. How would we share that across our 15 computers?

that should take a pretty hefty network... dude, the cabling alone is not gonna be "cheap"

you're gonna kill that bandwidth man ;)

i'd go with a router and switch setup, but holy cow that's gonna be a hefty equip fee

think about getting the cat5 cabling and a crimper yourself, that may save some bucks

Well! In brief
what you can do is to buy a 16 Port Hub, put an extra network card on the PC with the Internet Connection and the connect this to the hub, after that install Win98 SE and the use Internet Connection Sharing( LAN and not Dialup).
Afcourse all th other 15 PC should be networked via the hub.
This works and infact i am currently using a PC connected by these means.

Just get a single port router like the one Linksys makes and hook it up to a 16 port switch. 1,500Kb/s divided amoung 15 people is like 100Kb/s per person, or about 12KB/s per person. Just keep the switch by your computer...if your speed get's too low...just unplug a couple of your friends :)

yea make sure you get a switch and not a hub, in the long run i'm sure it'll be worth the investment

i remember a really good deal on some 3com 16 port switches a while ago, like a $200 rebate i believe

with 16 ppl chipping in it shouldn't be too bad
