My friends and I need to be able to share our word documents and other files over a network. My friend and I were using gigatribe (a pc, nice and easy, sharing program). However, now we want to add a mac to the equation. gigatribe is not yet made on mac, and won't be till later this year. Wondering how I can possibly do this, maybe with another program, thanks.

turn on Windows sharing is the sharing tab of the Mac and note it's IP address. On your windows box use Windows Explorer to navigate to \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Or, turn on shared folders on your Widows box and use the Mac's network pane (shift-command-K in the finder) to navigate to your Windows shares.

That's the default way to access it, I don't know if that will work with gigatribe.

How about Samba for the Mac? It's free...

that wont work because, as i said, i am sharing between macs and pcs, not just macs...

Samba works for both Mac's and PC's. You'd run it on the Mac but its purpose would be to allow the PC to access the share(s) on the Mac. It's used a lot in mixed Linux and PC environments and I haven't any trouble with it....FWIW

Samba is file sharing....it's just not tied to one platform.

Windows filesharing is the same as samba

You sould use FTP. install the free filezilla server on a windows computer and ftp files to and from your Mac with it.

If it's a local network ditch gigatribe and just use normal SMB filesharing for all the systems.
