How to shape network traffic with low end router

Buddy of mine has a problem, he likes to play League but his mother likes to stream Netflix. Regardless of my approval of the issue I looked into it and his router does not have any traffic shaping or QoS settings. It's a D-Link WBR-2310 and does not support dd-wrt or any other firmwares as far as I can tell.

Is there any other way to control the bandwidth being utilized?

Nope, and even if your router did have "QoS" settings, you wouldn't really be able to do anything in the ingress (downstream from ISP) direction anyway.

If there is nothing to do with the router, you could change the Netflix streaming quality from Best to Better. The only way it wouldn't help is if their internet is already too slow for HD, or the device they are viewing it on doesn't support HD.
