how to setup router box?

some might remember my post a little while back regarding using a splitter...well, the situation has changed slightly.

i have come across a few "netbees", they were used at an airport for the FID's (flight information displays) and i would like to set one up as a router in my room so i can have more than one computer hooked up to my cable modem.

first of all, here is the configuration...is it enough? -->
k6-2 266
onboard nic
onboard video
2gig hard drive (maybe dma33)
32megs ram
floppy
win98

assuming this can handle the task without slowing down the connection, i need some advice on how to set it up. normally, i try to figure things out first and come here as a last resort, but if you read my last post you know i wouldn't know where to start.

basically, i have a cable modem with a linksys router sending one line up to my room. i assume i would plug that into this computer. then, i would need a few extra nic's installed, one for each computer i plan to hook up to it, right? lets say i want to run 3 computers off of this computer...it has 2 pci slots and 1 isa slot...would three nic's get along with each other in there?

now the bigger question...what program/software would i use?

my last attempt with the splitter was to go cheap and easy, but it didn't work like i had hoped. i would like this to be inexpensive but i am willing to spend a few bucks here and there (mainly for the extra nic's, so far i have an isa one laying around i can use). i know it would be easier to just get another router for my room but i like the challenge and i would like to get some networking experience.

i appreciate any advice and helpfull links...
